A lot of people think confidence means certainty.
It does not.
Confidence is adaptability.
The ability to adjust without collapsing. The willingness to keep moving even when the plan changes. The understanding that growth requires flexibility.
Rigid people struggle after setbacks because they are emotionally attached to one outcome, one timeline, or one identity.
Adaptable people recover faster because they understand something important:
changing direction does not mean losing yourself.
After adversity, adaptability becomes survival.
Can you adjust expectations?
Can you learn new skills?
Can you rethink the approach without quitting entirely?
That is confidence too.
Not loud confidence. Not performative confidence.
Functional confidence.
The kind that keeps you moving when life stops cooperating.
